Natalie's Story

natalieprom

I have always loved playing sports, basketball, cross country and track. I strive to be successful and be my best, which means that I get straight As in school. I love my friends and family.

I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in July of 2010. I went through chemotherapy and lost my leg. When I found out that I had cancer I couldn’t believe it. The first thing that went through my mind was sports. I thought that I wouldn’t care about losing my hair and that it was the least of my worries, but when it came right down to it, I was devastated.

When I got my Angel Hair I was pretty excited, it looked so real. Nobody realized that my hair was Angel Hair. People commented on how much they liked my hair. My Angel Hair has gone through a lot with me, from being a homecoming princess to being puked on when things came up unexpectedly.

My Angel Hair was almost like a security blanket. I would not go anywhere without it, unless I was in the hospital.  I am now done with chemo and I have a little bit of my own hair on my head.  I still love my Angel Hair.

The Angel Hair Foundation, a private, non-profit corporation, reaches out to children in Oregon who have lost their hair due to medical illness. It provides the funding needed to purchase natural looking, quality hair systems, often called Angel Hair. The foundation was started when Staci, daughter of Market of Choice President Rick Wright, went through chemotherapy and received a prosthetic hair system.
