Shall We Dance 2011

Angel Hair Foundation’s second annual Shall We Dance was an amazing event.  In January 2011, over 200 people came together to support a very worthy cause. They also came to support their favorite local celebrity dancers.

The audience fell silent when our returning champions Colleen Bellotti and her partner Robert graced the dance floor with their signature Viennese Waltz.

Then things really picked up as our celebrity dancers competed for the title.  We saw some heel kickin’ when Ryan Pape’ and Laura revved the crowed with a very energetic two step to She’s CountryStrom Kennedy and Robert’s Bolero to I Can Only Imagine was breathtaking.  One of the most entertaining moments was when Ric Jeffries came on stage dressed in 70’s disco attire and danced the hustle to Carwash.  (Love the headband Ric).  But, the ever so coveted Tiffany & Co. crystal vase and perpetual trophy went to the winner of this year’s Shall We Dance…Holly Menino.  Holly and Mark dominated the dance floor with lifts and swings, as they danced the jive to Candyman.

Performing is one thing, but being judged is another. The celebrity dancers had to withstand the critiques of the judges.  The judges this year, Molly Elder, Seth Wayne, Al Kline, and Jose da Silva. Event though they were all dancers last year, they did not go easy on the celebrities.  However, after a few constructive comments, the judges gave all the dancers raves reviews.

The real star of the evening and the show stopper, was Maile Heen.  Nine year-old Maile had everyone’s attention and heart’s as she told her story and how Angel Hair touched her life.

The Angel Hair Foundation, a private, non-profit corporation, reaches out to children in Oregon who have lost their hair due to medical illness. It provides the funding needed to purchase natural looking, quality hair systems, often called Angel Hair. The foundation was started when Staci, daughter of Market of Choice President Rick Wright, went through chemotherapy and received a prosthetic hair system.
